Idina Menzel is an American actress, singer, and songwriter. She is best known for her role as Elsa in the Disney animated film Frozen, and its stage adaptation Frozen: The Musical. She has also appeared in a number of other stage and screen roles, including Rent, Wicked, Glee, and If/Then. As a singer, Menzel has released four solo albums and has won a Tony Award and a Grammy Award.
Menzel was born on May 30, 1971, in Queens, New York. Her mother, Helene, is a therapist, and her father, Stuart, is a photographer. Menzel has a younger sister, Cara. Menzel’s parents divorced when she was 15 years old, and she subsequently took her mother’s maiden name as her stage name.
Menzel began her career in regional theatre, before making her Broadway debut in the 1995 original production of Rent. She went on to star in the original Broadway productions of Wicked and If/Then.
